Evelyn and Larry moved into Harper Park in 1947, long before the Harpers owned it, when there were only seven trailers. Maybe it was their age, the way they didn't seem to relate to one another or this particular day, but I felt an immediate saddness about them. That sadness always seemed to hang over them whenever I stopped by to say hello.
