"I like your work. On my off days, I would pick a spot on the map and drive there. Always small towns. But I never had a camera with me. Your work so reminds me of those journeys."

"I loved this collection of photographs since they reminded me of a trip to the US over 20 years ago before my husband and I were married. Though I can't exactly put my finger on why, the images exert a real fascination for me. Some I find almost desolate and others, again for no particular reason, very depressing. I viewed the pictures before reading Chris Welch's comments about her work. Having read about how and when she started to photograph these spaces it began to verify my feelings about them. The sense of them being caught in great loops of time was very apparent.
As they are all devoid of any life the longer one studies them the easier it becomes to people them with characters of the imagination.
Finally, I'm surprised how, given the huge number of similarities between our cultures, these spaces appear totally alien to me. But this only adds to their fascination. A great collection. I enjoyed looking at it - though I don't think I could ever explain why!. Thanks"

"Hi Christine,
I'm a former student from PSA&D. First I must say, you were perhaps the most interesting, and knowledgeable teacher I have ever had. Before your class, I had very limited appreciation for photography. Thank you for sparking my interest. I am really impressed by your work. The images in this presentation are haunting and beautiful. Just great work."

"Beatiful work by Chris. I'd love to see these images in person. The tone and color are just mysterious and mesmorizing. You do feel like you're "peeking" in on a space but also on a human moment. These are the types of images I often see in my mind when happening upon such spaces, and you captured them beautifully."

"Your photos of empty spaces depict a post-industrial culture that is both stagnant and expectant. One wonders who wanders in and out of these scenes. "

"Once again, an intriguing and original format and presentation. This intrigues the mind, while the eyes are soothed by the simplicity and resonance of the images. Easy on the eyes is the term that comes to mind. The images have a simplicity and balance of composition combined with a sense of radiance in the lighting that brings about a very satisfying visual harmony. If all our "commonplace" interiors reflected this, we would all benefit from the often overlooked but profound effects of visual, spatial and lighting harmony."

"Chris: You may remember me from the time when you and Pete were living in the NYU Law School graduate housing just off Washington Square. I am an F&M friend of Pete's and I am now working for the Motorola Law Department in Palm Beach Countuy. Pete and I get together often. He told me about this set of pictures and I have greatly enjoyed seeing them. Question: do you have the basic technical data availible? If so, I would very much appreciate seeing it. Excellent job! Please convey my regards to Kate. Regards, Chuck Brackbill "
