Burke
Hully (second interview
subject): As Truman said, if you want a friend in Washington,
get a dog. Well, we had a dog, and it had a wonderful life with
us, and we had a wonderful life with it. And it was put to sleep
before it had any bad pain.
Alex Chadwick: So, here's the idea -- go out and listen to
people, someplace where they're comfortable and have time to talk.
Hans-Jurgen
Morik: Sometimes don't they just pass you and look at you like
-- interviews, 50 cents?
Alex Chadwick: Yes, most of them do. But, you know, some
of them stop.
Alex
Chadwick: And the sign, it's kind of a lure, and kind of a gag.
And if the idea doesn't work, maybe we can at least make lunch money.
Delores Williams: (third interview subject) It was nice talking
to you.
Alex Chadwick: All right.
Delores Williams: And I'm going to take my 50 cents back.
Alex Chadwick: Whoa, wait a minute.
Delores Williams: (Laughs)
Neil
Owen: I always do things the hard way -- from driving stick
shifts, to mowing lawns, to learning how to walk, always doing
things the hard way.
Sometimes
I can figure out things like that, you know, that no one else
can. Other times I can't figure out the simplest things and the
answer is right in front of me. And everyone else can do it, but
I can't.
Alex Chadwick:Yeah, but don't you think everybody's like
that? They are
Neil Owen: Maybe. I don't know. I don't know.
