Karen
Keltz:
I came to Key West because I'm a lawyer, but I'm getting kind of
old, and so my biological clock was ticking. I'm 36.
Alex
Chadwick: That's not that old.
Karen
Keltz: Well,
if you have a biological clock it is. So, my friend decided that
I should start answering personals. So, I started reading these
personal ads in Dallas, but they were all very dull. I mean, have
you ever been to Dallas?
Alex
Chadwick: Not really.
Karen
Keltz:
Okay. Well, you know, there all sort of into the same things. You
read these ads and there into different sorts of dull stuff. So,
what I started doing is there is this magazine, Continental Magazine,
and you can get personal ads, so I answered some personal ads from
Key West. So, I decided -- there was this one that said, "Want to
move to Key West and have a family and a serious commitment." So
I thought I would do that because I really -- I'm Catholic and I
want to have a lot of kids. So, I answered this personal ad, and
we corresponded a couple of times, and I was supposed to come down
here to meet him. But on the way here, we drove -- I packed up my
stuff in my jeep -- and on the way here we stopped in Pensacola
--
Alex
Chadwick: Uh-huh.
Karen
Keltz: We have some friends
in Pensacola.
Alex
Chadwick: Yeah.
Karen
Keltz:
And so we get down here a couple days late.
Alex
Chadwick: Right.
Ms: So, we were supposed to meet in this Italian restaurant
up the street, but we were a couple days late.
Alex
Chadwick: You're wandering around looking for this guy?
Karen Keltz:
That's why I came here.
Alex
Chadwick: (laughs) That's a great story. Let me see if I can
get this right, okay. You answered a personal ad to come to Key
West, raise a family, and you actually -- you left your job, you're
a lawyer in Dallas. You quit your job. You packed everything you
own. You drove here. You had an arrangement to me meet this guy
in a restaurant on what, Saturday night? And you got here a couple
of days late?
Karen Keltz:
Yeah. And it's just down the street.
Alex
Chadwick: And you keep going back to the restaurant? And let
me ask you one thing, all right. Is this story true?
Karen Keltz:
Yes. Of course. Does
it not sound true? Who would -- I mean, who could make up a story
like this? When you're 36-years-old, time is ticking.
Alex
Chadwick: I'm not sure it's ticking so urgently that one should
pack everything they own and drive a couple of thousand miles to
meet some guy on Saturday night that you don't even know, and turn
your whole life around on that.
Karen Keltz:
Well, it's an adventure. Haven't you ever tried anything crazy like
that?
Alex
Chadwick: I don't know if I've ever tried anything that crazy.
Karen Keltz:
Anyway, that's my story.
And Anita wanted me to tell you, so --
Alex
Chadwick: That's great. Thank you very much.
Karen
Keltz:
Okay. Nice to meet
you.
Alex
Chadwick: All right. Bye. Wait a second.
Karen
Keltz:
Oh, I forgot to pay you?
Alex
Chadwick: No, no. I'll pay you for that one.
Karen
Keltz:
I could -- well, thank
you. Anita, I got 50 cents
Anita:
Okay, good. Towards our s'mores --.
Alex Chadwick:
Spend it on a personal.
Karen
Keltz:
No, we're going to the Italian restaurant.
