We went to Short Hills, New Jersey, where close friends of ours live. It was on the train ride from Hoboken that we first heard of the other planes that hit the Pentagon and western Pennsylvania. Quite a horrific but yet surreal experience. I was so happy by then, though, because I was able to bring my daughter and I to safety. Nothing else mattered.

I've been asked if I regret not being able to have freely photographed more or have gone back to shoot after reuniting our daughter with my wife. Not for a second. It was an easy decision. In a way, I was amazed I got the images I did. All I shot was two rolls. I was able to go back a few days later and get some shots of "ground zero" from a perch above my apartment building.
